Wow. This is why I subscribe to you. I cannot tell me how much I needed this. I had crazy cystic acne all through high school and college, and it still flares up sometime, not to mention the scarring! 9 times out of 10, I literally don’t think about it, but if it’s a particularly bad flare-up (or if there’s a guy I’m talking to), it’s so easy to fall into a spiral of “well, I don’t look like a tik tok model therefore I have zero worth as a woman 😔😔”. My friend on the phone last night was literally just telling me, “liv, your skin does NOT affect your appearance as much as you think it does.” This was a beautiful reminder to fix our eyes on the beauty of the Lord, instead of ourselves. Our culture is so hyper-focused on how we look—including myself—and Narcissus is the perfect myth to encapsulate that.

you are so kind, thank you for sharing <3 I totally relate to the spiraling. little flaws or changes are easily magnified in our own eyes when other people barely notice them. keeping our eyes on Heaven gives us a better perspective of life and helps us see that, yeah, a breakout might be sucky, but there are much Greater things to be thinking about.

THIS! Why has self care and beauty become more stressful than enjoyable for women? The pressure to be perfect from the “social media skincare experts” is REAL! 👏🏻

"more stressful than enjoyable" is the perfect way to phrase it. I remember being 12 and making homemade face masks at sleepovers with friends--we weren't doing it to try to look perfect, but just to have fun. now women seem to be wearing borderline torture devices because an influencer or brand tells them it will do XYZ to their appearance. it's all too serious and stressful for something that ultimately adds little to our happiness or holiness.

If you eat well your skin just looks good as a byproduct. I've seen people say eating only healthy food is a mental illness which is stupid.

This whole “We should all look equally ugly and you make me feel inadequate” thing is silly.
